- Tap the menu in the top-left.
- Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
- Select Spotify, then Link account to Alexa.
- Enter your Spotify account details.
Set Spotify as your default service for music and podcasts so you don’t need to specify “on Spotify” at the end of your voice commands to play music:
- Tap the menu in the top-left.
- Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
- Tap Choose default music services.
Note: To set Spotify as your default podcast service, tap Choose default podcast service. - Select Spotify and tap DONE.
Note: You still need to say “on Spotify” at the end of commands to play podcasts.

Q1. Alexa Spotify app support unavailable?
Currently, you can use Alexa features and services (such as the Alexa app) in the U.S., United Kingdom and Germany only. If you try to use the device in an unsupported country, some Alexa services may not work or may have limited functionality. You can fix it by going to 'Amazon app > Your Account > Digital Content > Manage Content and Devices', then you'll see 'Settings' and you need to change the country to US or create a new Amazon account with USA address.
Q2. Can't link Spotify to Alexa?
If Amazon and Echo will not link and just says 'an error occurred while attempting to link Alexa with external provider', you can resolve this now by using a PC (not Mac) and going through the linking process via http://layla.amazon.co.uk. Or logging into your Spotify profile online and go to look at details, if your email is displaying as your username and postcode is out of date, then update it to your email address and update the password. Going back into Alexa app and the Spotify setup, tap on 'not me' to start the linking process again and then log in.

Part 2. How to Play Spotify on Amazon Echo
Step 1. Open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone.
Step 2. Tap on the Menu button in the top-left corner. Tap on 'Settings', in the 'Account' list, tap on 'Music & Media'.
Step 3. Tap on 'Spotify', then tap on 'Link account on Spotify.com'.
Step 4. Tap on 'Log in to Spotify'. If you don't already have a Spotify account, you can tap on 'Sign up for Spotify'. Remember that you'll need a Spotify Premium subscription for Amazon Echo integration to work.
Step 5. Enter in your Spotify username and password, and then tap on 'Log in', or tap 'Log in with Facebook' if you have an account created through Facebook.
Step 6. Tap on 'OKAY' and your account will be linked to Alexa.
Step 7. (Optional) You can make Spotify the default player by the way to 'Settings' > 'Customize my music service preferences' > 'My preferred music source' > 'Spotify' > 'Done'.
